Germany Supports Fight Against Drugs and Crime
As in previous years Germany is one of the major donors to projects of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna. In 2010, German contributions exceeded 10 million US dollars; Germany ranks third among the national UNODC donors. The sponsored projects target drugs, corruption, terror and piracy mainly in Pakistan, Afghanistan, West and East Africa, South East Asia, Central and South America.

Germany Contributes 1.2 Million Euro to Generic Medicines Project
Vienna, 19 October 2010: Ambassador Lüdeking and UNIDO Director General Yumkella have signed a project agreement amounting to 1.2 million Euro funded by the Federal Republic of Germany. The aim of the project is to improve access to essential generic drugs in Africa and Asia.

The Earth in 3D - German radar satellite TanDEM-X launched successfully
21 June 2010: Germany's second Earth observation satellite, TanDEM-X, was launched successfully on 21 June 2010. Together with its twin satellite TerraSAR-X, TanDEM-X will survey the entire land surface area of the Earth. The data are widely applicable: in geoscientific disciplines such as hydrology, geology and oceanography as well as in optimising relief planning in the wake of natural disasters.

Germany's continued support for UNODC projects
Vienna, July 2009: The German Federal Government is allocating funds amounting to over US-$ 2.8 million for UNODC projects in July 2009. The funds are earmarked inter alia for the promotion of the rule of law, human security, border control and the fight against trafficking in persons in South-East Europe (US-$ 2.0 million), drug demand reduction in Iran (US-$ 0.5 million) as well as capacity building for drug demand reduction in Afghanistan (US-$ 0.34 million).

International Narcotics Control Board met in Vienna

UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs holds 52nd session
From 11 to 20 March 2009 the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs convened in Vienna for the 52nd time to discuss global drug policy. The beginning of the meeting was marked by a political declaration delivered by high-level representatives of member states. Among the key points were the treatment of addiction and the joint fight against black markets and drug-related crime.

147 Nations meet in Vienna to discuss the fight against organized crime
Vienna, 8 - 17 October 2008: A high-level conference of the 147 countries that are Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime will review the implementation of this convention and its three Protocols (Trafficking in Persons, Smuggling of Migrants, and Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms). Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT)
New York, 24 September 2008: To date over 2,000 nuclear weapon tests have been carried out worldwide. The German government is working towards the goal of ensuring that nuclear tests are banned worldwide. This is the aim of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which has not yet entered into force. Foreign Ministers of more than 40 countries in support of the CTBT met in New York on the margins of the UN General Assembly.

UN Space Committee meets in Vienna
The UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) held its 51st session in Vienna from 11 to 20 June 2008. Crime Commission discusses violence against women
The UN Commision on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held its 17th meeting from 14 to 18 April 2008 in Vienna. Discussions focused i.a. on how to counter violence against women and girls. As a member of the Crime Commission, Germany was represented at the meeting by a delegation of experts.
